Urban Ecology
The explosion of human population urban ecology research and the growing pressure on the global environment has created worldwide concern over the future sustainability of human communities urban ecology research and the ecosystems upon which they depend. The unprecedented concentration of this rising population in the world`s cities has yielded both a renewed interest urban ecology research and exciting advancements in urban ecology urban ecology research and green city planning. Urban Ecology examines how innovations in archeology, urban history, urban urban ecology research and landscape ecology, urban ecology research and environmental city planning urban ecology research and design present a new narrative about the relationship between human communities urban ecology research and their ecosystems. The book then follows the science urban ecology research and perspectives pioneered by early ecologists, such as the Chicago School in Human Ecology, urban ecology research and early urban environmental planners, such as Patrick Geddes urban ecology research and Fredrick Law Olmsted, urban ecology research and their reinvigoration urban ecology research and expansion in the work of contemporary urban ecologists urban ecology research and green city planners urban ecology research and designers. Examples of this evolution arereflected in case studies of current day efforts such as the Long Term Ecological Research project urban ecology research and the European Commission`s Urban Agenda in the European Union. Urban ecology brings together a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the origins urban ecology research and trajectory of the fields of urban urban ecology research and landscape ecology urban ecology research and environmental city planning urban ecology research and design. In doing so it illuminates the parallel genesis urban ecology research and development of these fields toward the context of a common set of goals urban ecology research and language. Such integration has been called for repeatedly in the urban environmental literature yet to date no text has provided such a context. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only.
